マンガのような様式
語源
「manga-style」は日本語の「漫画」から来ており、「漫」は「気まま／ざっくばらん」という意・「画」は「絵」を意味する。後半の「style」は英語の'style'（フランス語・ラテン語由来）。
「manga」は20世紀に英語に取り入れられ、日本のコミックを指す語となった。英語では「manga」と英語の「style」を組み合わせて『漫画風』を意味する表現が作られた。
当初「manga」は日本のコミックやユーモラスな絵を指していたが、次第に特有の作画法や語り口も含む意味に広がった。したがって「manga-style」は単に『漫画に由来する』ではなく『漫画のような様式・表現』を意味するようになった。
