語源
「localize」はフランス語の『localiser』に由来し、さらに後期ラテン語の『localis』（ラテン語の『locus』（「場所」）に由来）にさかのぼる。
後期ラテン語の『localis』→フランス語の『localiser』→19世紀に英語の『localize』へ。そこから『localization』などの名詞が派生した。
元来は「場所（に関すること）」「（〜を）場所にする／局地化する」という意味だったが、現代では「特定の地域・市場向けに合わせる」という意味と「位置を特定する」という意味の両方で用いられている。
