語源
「interceptor」はラテン語に由来し、特に動詞「intercipere」からで、「inter-」は「～の間」を意味し、「capere」（後に「cipere」として見られる）は「取る」を意味した。
「interceptor」は後期ラテン語／中世ラテン語の「interceptor」やフランス語の動詞「intercepter」から変化し、最終的に現代英語の名詞「interceptor」になった。
元々は「（間に位置して）奪う者」という意味だったが、次第に「途中で止める・奪うもの（装置・迎撃機・選手など）」という現在の専門的な意味に進化した。
