語源
'homoousious'はギリシャ語の'homoousios'に由来し、'homo-'は「同じ」、'ousia'は「本質・実体」を意味した。
'homoousios'は教会ラテン語や神学用語として取り入れられ、ニカイア信条をめぐる近世以降の神学文献を通じて英語の音訳'homoousious'が用いられるようになった。
元来は古典ギリシャ語で「同じ本質である」という意味だったが、時を経てキリスト教神学において父と子が同一の実体を共有することを示す専門用語として定着した。
