語源
「gynoecy」はギリシャ語由来の要素をNew Latin（学名ラテン語）を経て形成された。ギリシャ語の『gynē』（女性、雌）と『oikos』（家、住まい）から来ており、複合語として『ある種の存在』を示す。
『gynoecy』はNew Latin／植物学ラテン語の語形（例：gynoecia）から発展し、18–19世紀の学術・植物学文献を通じて現代英語に入った。
