語源
「gynodioecious」は近代植物学の造語でギリシャ語由来の要素'gynē'と'dioikēs'に由来し、'gynē'は「女性・雌」、'dioikēs'は「2つの住まい（2つの群れ）」を意味した。
「gynodioecious」はNew Latinの造語として、ギリシャ語の'gynē'を含む接頭辞'gyno-'と英語の'dioecious'（ギリシャ語'dioikēs'由来）とを結合して作られ、19–20世紀に植物学用語として英語に取り入れられた。
当初は「女性＋2つの群れ」という語根的意味を表す造語だったが、現代の植物学では「雌と雌雄同体個体が共存する状態」を指す専門用語として定着している。
