語源
「feminization」はラテン語の語根「fēmina」（女性）に由来し、英語で動詞化接尾辞「-ize」と名詞化接尾辞「-ation」が付いてできた語です。
ラテン語の「fēmina」は後期ラテン語や中世ラテン語で「feminare」「feminizare」のような形になり、そこから近代英語の動詞「feminize」が生じ、さらに名詞「feminization」になりました。
元々は「女性にする・女性と見なす」という意味が基本でしたが、時代とともに職域での女性の増加や医学的・言語学的な女性化といった広い意味に拡張されました。
