語源
'eutrophy'はギリシャ語に由来し、具体的には接頭辞の「eu-」と語根の「trophē」から来ており、「eu-」は「良い・よく」、「trophē」は「栄養・食べ物」を意味した。
『eutrophy』は近代ラテン語／学術語（例：'eutrophia'）としてギリシャ語の語根から作られ、19〜20世紀に英文の科学用語として用いられるようになり、『eutrophication』『eutrophic』などの派生語が現れた。
