語源
「euchromatic」はギリシャ語由来で、接頭辞『eu-』は「良く・よく」の意、語根『chroma』は「色」を意味する。
「euchromatic」は名詞『euchromatin』から発展した。ユークロマチンは20世紀初頭の細胞遺伝学で作られた語で、そこに形容詞接尾辞『-ic』が付いて現代英語の形容詞になった。
当初は顕微鏡でよく染まる（色の良い）組織や構造を指していたが、次第に生物学で『凝集が緩く転写が活発なクロマチン』という専門的意味に変化した。
