「dihydromyricetin」は化学命名法に由来し、「di-（2）」「hydro-（水素／還元）」という接頭辞と、植物属 Myrica に由来するフラボノール名「myricetin」を組み合わせた語。
既存のフラボノール名「myricetin」に、還元体を示す「dihydro-」を付して、現在の特定化合物名「dihydromyricetin」となった。
