語源
「desirous」はラテン語の動詞「desiderāre」（切望する・欲する）に由来し、これが古フランス語の「desirer」を経て中英語へ入ったものです。
ラテン語の「desiderāre」から古フランス語「desirer」、中英語の「desiren／desirous」と変化し、英語の形容詞「desirous」が成立し、さらに副詞化して「desirously」になりました。
もともとは「切望する」という動作を示しましたが、やがて「欲している」という形容詞的な意味や「欲するように」という副詞的な意味に発展しました。
