語源
「deliberation」はラテン語『deliberatio』（『deliberare』に由来）に由来し、接頭辞「de-」は強意や分離の意味、動詞「librare」は「はかる・秤にかける」を意味しました。
『deliberation』は中世ラテン語の『deliberatio』や古フランス語の『deliberacion』を経て、中英語を通じて現代英語の『deliberation』になりました。
当初は「（選択肢を）はかる・秤にかける行為」を意味しましたが、次第に「慎重な検討・公式の審議」という現在の意味に変化しました。
