語源
「chasuble」はラテン語後期の『casula』（『casa（家）』の指小辞）に由来し、「小さな家」（フード付きの外套）の意を持っていた。
『casula』が古フランス語『chasuble』となり、中英語の『chesible／chasuble』などを経て、現代英語の『chasuble』になった。
当初は一般的な外套状の衣服を指したが、のちにミサで用いられる司祭の上祭服を意味する語へと専門化した。
