中心であること・重要性
語源
「centrality」はラテン語の「centralis」や「centrum」に由来し、「centrum」は「中心」を意味し、接尾辞「-ity」はラテン語の「-itas」（状態・性質）に由来する。
ギリシャ語の「kentron（中心）」→ラテン語「centrum」→中世ラテン語の「centralis」→英語の「central」＋接尾辞「-ity」から「centrality」へと発展した。
当初は主に物理的に中心であることを指したが、次第に重要性や有意性を意味するようになり、さらにネットワーク分析などでの専門的な意味も帯びるようになった。
