語源
「cebil」はスペイン語に由来し、スペイン語の単語「cebil（場合によっては「cebíl」と表記）」は南米の特定の樹の現地名として使われていた。
「cebil」は19世紀にスペイン人やヨーロッパの博物学者・人類学者の報告を通じて英語に入り、スペイン語の「cebil」とほぼ同形で使われ続けた。
