語源
「caper」はラテン語「capparis」に由来し、「capparis」はケイパーの低木やその花芽を指しました。
「caper」は中世ラテン語や古フランス語の形を経て（ラテン語「capparis」など）、中英語を通じて現代英語の「caper」になりました。
当初は植物やその花芽（食用のケイパー）を意味しましたが、時間とともに「跳ねる・はしゃぐ」といった意味にも拡張されました（跳躍の連想によるものと考えられます）。
