語源
'badiaga'はロシア語の'бадяга'（バヂャーガ）に由来し、外用薬として用いられる淡水スポンジを指した。
'badiaga'は19世紀にロシアの医学・薬学文献から英語に借用され、英語文献ではしばしば'badyaga'や'badiaga'と綴られて粉末スポンジやその製剤を指す語として使われた。
