語源
「backwinding」は英語に由来し、'back'（後ろへ）と 'wind'（古英語 'windan'：回す・ねじる）の複合語から成る。
'back' は古英語の 'bæc' に由来し、'wind' は古英語の 'windan'（回す）に由来する。現代英語で 'back-wind'／'backwind' が現れ、'backwinding' はその現在分詞・動名詞形として発達した。
当初は文字どおり『後ろに回す・巻く』という意味だったが、現在もその意味を保ちつつ『処理を逆にする・元に戻す』といった比喩的用法もある。
