語源
「backchain」は現代英語に由来し、要素としての「back（後ろ、古英語'bæc'）」と「chain（連鎖、古フランス語'chaine'・ラテン語'catena'）」から成る複合語である。
「backchain」は20世紀半ば以降の論理・AIでの'backward chaining'や教育での'back-chaining'という表現に由来し、次第に短縮されて'backchain'や'backchaining'という動詞・名詞形が現れた。
当初は主に論理・AIで目標から逆にたどる手法を指したが、やがて語学指導の手法など「後ろから組み立てる」というより広い意味にも使われるようになった。
