語源
「autosome」はギリシャ語の語幹「autos」と「soma」に由来し、「autos」は「自己・自分」を、「soma」は「体（からだ）」を意味しました。
「autosome」はギリシャ語の語根を基に新ラテン語／学術ラテン語で作られ、19世紀末から20世紀初頭にかけてドイツ語や英語の学術語として導入され、性染色体以外の染色体を指す専門用語として定着しました。
