「attune」は接頭辞の「a-」と「tune（音・調）」を組み合わせた英語の形成に由来し、「tune」は最終的にラテン語・ギリシャ語の語根（音、調）に由来します。
「attune」は初期近代英語で接頭辞「a-」と中英語の「tunen（調律する）」から発達し、「tune」はラテン語'tonus'、ギリシャ語'tonos'を経ています。
