語源
「attributor」はラテン語を経由して中世・近代フランス語と英語に由来し、具体的にはラテン語の動詞「attribuere」（「ad-」＋「tribuere」）に由来する。ここで「ad-」は「〜へ/〜に向かって」、「tribuere」は「与える/割り当てる」を意味する。
ラテン語の「attribuere」は古フランス語・中英語で「attribuer／attribute」となり、その後英語で能動者を示す接尾辞「-or」が付いて「attributor」になった。
当初は「与える、割り当てる」という意味だったが、時を経て「（原因・出典・性質などを）帰属させる/割り当てる」という意味に変化し、さらに属性・メタデータを付与する技術的な意味にも広がった。
