語源
「atticism」はギリシャ語形容詞「Attikos」（ラテン語の「Atticus」経由）に由来し、「Attikos」は「アッティカの（アテネ地域の）」を意味する。英語の接尾辞「-ism」はギリシャ語の「-ismos」からラテン語・フランス語を経て来ており、慣習・様式を表す。
「atticism」は17世紀に洗練された古典的文体を表すためにフランス語の「atticisme」から英語に入った。ラテン語「Atticus」やギリシャ語「Attikos」からの流れを経て、英語で「atticism／atticisms」という形に定着した。
