語源
「atomical」はギリシャ語の『atomos』に由来し、'a-'は「〜でない」、'tomos'は「切る（切片）」を意味した。英語では後期ラテン語・中世ラテン語を経て入ってきた。
『atomos』がラテン語の'atomicus'や'atomalis'の形を経て中英語の'atomical'になり、現代英語の'atomical'に至った。
元々は「切れない・不可分の」粒子を指していたが、次第に「原子に関する」という意味になり、現代では多くの場合'atomic'に置き換えられる。
