語源
「atactic」はギリシャ語の語『ataktos』に由来し、接頭辞『a-』は「〜でない」、『taktos』は「配列された／整えられた」を意味する。
『atactic』はネオ・ラテン語やフランス語『atactique』、ドイツ語『atactisch』などの学術用語から変化し、19世紀の化学文献を通じて英語に取り入れられた。
当初は「整っていない／配列されていない」という一般的な意味だったが、徐々に「高分子の立体的配列（配向）が規則的でない」という専門的な意味に発展した。
