語源
「astatize」はギリシャ語の『astatos（ἀστάτος）』に由来し、接頭辞『a-』は「〜でない」、『statos』は「立っている／固定された」を意味し、英語では動詞化の接尾辞『-ize』が付加されて成立した。
ギリシャ語の『astatos』は19世紀に科学用語として『astatic（アスタティック）』として取り入れられ、そこに英語の動詞化接尾辞『-ize』が付いて『astatize』が形成された。
当初は「固定されていない／不安定な」といった記述的意味だったが、現代の専門用法では「装置をアスタティックにする（磁気的バイアスを低減する）」という具体的な過程を指すようになった。
