語源
「articling」は英語の 'article'（徒弟契約＝『articles』など）に由来し、さらに古フランス語 'article'、ラテン語 'articulus' にさかのぼる。
『articling』は『articles』（書面の契約や規定）という法的用法から派生し、『to be articled』（契約により徒弟となる）という動詞的用法が英語で生まれ、現在の現在分詞・名詞形になった。
元は『小さな関節・区分』を意味した 'articulus' が、古仏語・中英語を経て『条項・条文・書面』を指すようになり、さらに『徒弟契約（による見習い期間）』を意味するように拡張された。
