語源
「arthrography」は新ラテン語（医療用語）に由来し、ギリシャ語の要素「arthron（関節）」と「graphē（書く・描く・記録する）」から構成される。
「arthrography」はギリシャ語の「arthron」＋「graphein」から新ラテン語の「arthrographia」を経て英語の専門用語として採用され、19〜20世紀に医学領域で使われるようになった。
語の構成要素は当初『関節の書く・描く』という文字どおりの意味を持っていたが、次第に『造影剤を用いて関節を画像化・記録する検査』という現在の医学的意味に変化した。
