語源
『arthrodiran』は新ラテン語の分類名『Arthrodira』に由来し、ギリシャ語の接頭辞『arthro-』は「関節」を、要素『deirē』（またはdirē）は「首」を意味した。
『Arthrodira』は古代ギリシャ語の語素（arthron「関節」＋deirē「首」）に由来し、19世紀に新ラテン語の分類名として学術用語化され、英語では接尾辞『-an』をつけて形容詞・名詞の『arthrodiran』が作られた。
