「arrestor」は英語に由来し、動詞「arrest」と動作主を表す接尾辞「-or」から成り、『停止させる人・もの』を意味するように作られた語です。
「arrest」は古フランス語の「arester」（止める、留める）に由来し、さらに俗ラテン語 *'arrestare'（ラテン語の 'ad-' ＋ 'restare'『留まる、堅く立つ』に由来）を経て英語に入った。英語ではここに '-or' を付けて名詞化したのが「arrestor」です。
