語源
「arraigner」は古フランス語（特に『araignier』など）に由来し、もともとは説明責任を問う・召喚する意味を持っていた語根から来ています。
中英語の 'arraignen' / 'areinen' のような形から変化し、動詞 'arraign' が名詞化して現代英語の 'arraigner' になりました。
当初は「説明を求める・裁判に召喚する」という意味で、時間とともに法的用法に定着し、現在の「人を起訴・召喚する者（または稀に起訴される者）」という意味になりました。
