語源
「armageddon」はヘブライ語の要素「har」＋「Megiddo」に由来し、「har」は『山』を意味し、「Megiddo」は地名（メギド）である。
『armageddon』は新約聖書ギリシャ語の「Armagedōn（Ἁρμαγεδών）」やラテン語の「Armageddon」を経て英語に入った。聖書翻訳や宗教的用法を通じて定着した。
