語源
「arbitrager」はフランス語の「arbitrageur」（「arbitrage」から）に由来し、「arbitre」は元来「裁定者・判断する者」を意味した。
「arbitrage」は19世紀に金融用語として英語に入り、そこから裁定取引を行う者を指す「arbitrageur」や英語形の「arbitrager」が派生した。最終的にはラテン語の「arbiter（判断者）」が語源である。
当初は「裁定する人＝判断する人」を指したが、商業・金融の文脈で「市場間の価格差を利用して利益を得る人」を意味するように変化した。
