語源
「appendency」は中世ラテン語の「appendentia」から起こり、接頭辞の「ad-(同化して'ap-')」は「～へ」を、語根「pendere」は「ぶら下がる・懸かる」を意味しました。
「appendency」は中世ラテン語の「appendentia」から変化し、中英語で「appendence」のような形を経て、最終的に現代英語の「appendency」になりました。
当初は文字通り「(物に)ぶら下がる・付着する行為や状態」を意味していましたが、時間を経て「付属している状態／付属物」という現在の一般的な意味に変化しました。
