語源
「apogeous」はギリシャ語経由（ラテン語・フランス語を経た）に由来し、ギリシャ語の『apogaion』の『apo-』（離れて）と『gē／gaia』（地球）を語源とする。
『apogeous』は名詞『apogee』（フランス語『apogée』／後期ラテン語『apogaeum』）から英語で形容詞化されたもので、語尾に英語の形容詞語尾『-ous』が付加されたものです。
もともとは『地球から最も離れた点』という天文学的意味に限定されていたが、比喩的に『頂点・極点』という意味でも用いられるようになった。
