語源
「apathic」はギリシャ語を経てラテン語・フランス語から来ており、ギリシャ語の「apathēs／apatheia（無感情）」に由来する。接頭辞の「a-」は「～がない」、'pathos'は「感情・苦しみ」を意味する。
ギリシャ語の「apathēs／apatheia」から後期ラテン語・中世ラテン語の「apathicus」、フランス語の「apathique」を経て、18～19世紀に英語の「apathic」になった。
当初は「感情がない／苦しみに対して鈍感である」という意味だったが、現代では「興味や感情を示さない」という意味で使われるようになった。
