語源情報
「antthrush」は現代英語の複合語で、'ant'（アリ）と'thrush'（ツグミ類）から成り、'ant'は昆虫のアリを、'thrush'はツグミのような鳥を意味する。
歴史的変遷
19世紀にまず「ant-thrush（アント-スラッシュ）」のようなハイフン付き複合語として使われ、アリや落ち葉地帯で採餌するツグミに似た鳥を指した。後にハイフンを取った形『antthrush』も鳥類学の文献で用いられるようになった。
意味の変化
名称は当初、ツグミに似た外見とアリ（または落ち葉）を利用した採餌習性を強調していたが、現代でも同様の意味で用いられている。
