語源
「antianthropomorphism」は現代英語に由来し、接頭辞「anti-」（ギリシャ語/ラテン語経由で『反対』の意）と「anthropomorphism」（ギリシャ語の『ánthrōpos』＝『人間』、『morphē』＝『形』に由来）から成る造語です。
「anthropomorphism」はギリシャ語『anthrōpomorphía』や後期ラテン語『anthropomorphismus』を経て英語に入った語で、近代英語で接頭辞「anti-」が付され『antianthropomorphism』となり、擬人化に対する反対を示す語として用いられるようになりました。
当初『anthropomorphism』は非人間に人間の形や性質を帰属させることを指しましたが、『antianthropomorphism』はその帰属に反対することを意味するようになりました。
