'anthophyte'は新ラテン語の『Anthophyta』に由来し、最終的にはギリシャ語の要素『anthos』と『phyton』から来ている。ここで『anthos』は「花」を、『phyton』は「植物」を意味した。
'anthophyte'は分類学で用いられた新ラテン語『Anthophyta』に由来し、それがギリシャ語の『anthos』＋『phyton』に由来する。現代英語形は18–19世紀の科学ラテン語の用法を経て成立した。
