語源
「anostraca」は新ラテン語に由来し、最終的にギリシャ語の 'anostrakon' に由来する。ここで 'an-' は「～なし」を、'ostrakon' は「殻（殻状の板）」を意味した。
『anostraka』はギリシャ語 'anostrakon' から派生し、新ラテン語を経て現代の分類学上の名称『Anostraca』となり、フェアリーシュリンプ目を指す標準的な語になった。
当初は「殻を持たない」という意味（鰓甲を欠くことの記述）だったが、次第にフェアリーシュリンプの目という分類群を特定して指す語に変化した。
