語源
「anostracan」は新ラテン語の「Anostraca」に由来し、最終的にはギリシャ語の語素「an-（無い）」と「ostrakon（殻）」に由来する。「an-」は「～がない」を意味し、「ostrakon」は「殻」や「陶片」を意味した。
「anostracan」は分類学上の新ラテン語「Anostraca」から英語の形『anostracan』へ変化し、個体を指す語や形容詞形として使われるようになった。新ラテン語名自体はギリシャ語語根から作られている。
