語源
'annularity'はラテン語に由来し、特に' annularis'（'annulus'に由来）から来ており、'annulus'は「小さな輪」や「輪」を意味した。
'annulus'（ラテン語）は後期ラテン語・中世ラテン語で形容詞'annularis'となり、英語では形容詞'annular'に名詞化接尾辞'-ity'を付けて'annularity'が作られた。
当初は「小さな輪」や輪に関する性質を指したが、次第に「輪状である状態」を表す抽象名詞となり、金環食の『輪の段階』という天文的な意味も派生した。
