語源
「Unionist」は名詞「union」と接尾辞「-ist」から作られた英語で、「union」は古フランス語を経由したラテン語の「unio」（『1』を意味する「unus」に由来）に由来し、「-ist」は「...する人」を表す。
「union」は中英語の『unioun』として入ってきて、19世紀に労働組合や政治的連合の支持者を指す『unionist』という複合語が生まれた。
