語源
'Arabia'はラテン語の'Arabia'に由来し、さらにギリシャ語'Ἀραβία'（Arabía）に由来する。どちらも部族（アラブ人）や砂漠／遊牧民を指すセム系語根'ʿ-r-b'に基づく。
'Arabia'はギリシャ語'Ἀραβία'→ラテン語'Arabia'として現れ、中英語を経て現代英語の'Arabia'になった。
当初は『アラブ人』や砂漠・遊牧の土地を広く指していたが、次第にアラビア半島という特定の地理的地域（および歴史的な行政区分）を指すようになった。
