語源
「Anglo-American」は接頭辞「Anglo-」と「American」の複合語。「Anglo-」は古英語・ラテン語の『Angli』（アングル人）に由来し、『England』『English』の語根となった。「American」は探検家アメリゴ（ラテン語形 'Americus'）の名から『America』『American』が派生したものである。
「Anglo-」は『Anglo-Saxon』のような複合語で用いられ、19〜20世紀に『Anglo American』やハイフン付きの『Anglo‑American』の形で定着し、英系の人々や英米関係を指す語となった。
