語源
「zygodactyl」は新ラテン語／学術的な造語で、ギリシャ語の『zygon』（ゆが／yoke）と『daktulos』（指・足指）に由来する。
『zygodactyl』は新ラテン語の『zygodactylus』などの学術語形で作られ、鳥類学で「結びついた（対になった）足趾の配列」を示す専門用語として英語に入った。
最初は文字どおり「くびきのように結ばれた（対になった）足指」を表す語として作られ、現在でも同じく特定の鳥類の足趾配列を指す専門用語として使われている。
