語源
「transcribe」はラテン語の「transcribere」に由来し、「trans-」は「横へ／越えて」、「scribere」は「書く」を意味する。
「transcribere」は中世ラテン語や古フランス語の形を経て中英語の「transcriben」になり、最終的に現代英語の「transcribe」になった。
当初は「（別の場所へ）書き写す」を意味し、時を経ても「写す・転写する」という中心的な意味は保持されている。
