語源
「stroke-like」は現代英語の複合語で、名詞「stroke」と形容詞化接尾辞「-like」（「…に似た」の意）から成る。
「stroke」は本来「打撃」や「一筆」の意味を持つ古英語に由来し、接尾辞「-like」は古英語の 'lic'（姿・類似）に由来する。現代英語でハイフン付きの『stroke-like』のような記述語が作られるようになった。
当初「stroke」は打撃や筆致を指していたが、やがて脳の血管障害を意味する医療用語としての用法が確立し、『stroke-like』は筆致に似たものや脳卒中に似た症状の両方を表すようになった。
