語源
「smarty-pants」は「smarty」+「pants」から成る合成語です。'smarty'は接尾辞'-y'が付いた'smart'（賢い、利口な）の変化形で「賢い人」を指し、'pants'は口語的に遊び心を持って結合され、軽い軽蔑やからかいの意味を作ります。
