語源
「scrabble」は中英語の語『scrabben』に由来し、その語根は「ひっかく、かく」を意味していました。
『scrabben』（中英語：ひっかく、ひっかき回す）が変化して現代英語の『scrabble』になり、後に「苦労してかき集める」の意味が発達し、20世紀にはボードゲーム名にも使われました。
当初は「ひっかく」という意味でしたが、次第に「苦労してかき集める、もたもたする」という意味を持つようになり、さらにボードゲーム名にも転用されました。
